Dasseshera is one of the biggest Hindu festivals of India, which is basically 10 days of festivities. It is a very colorful indeed and every year we get different set of color sequence to wear to get the blessing of relevant Goddess. But I being a toy photographer decided to put my toy photography skill to test by following the color sequence for this year and post on my Facebook and Instagram. Today is the tenth and last day of the festivities so decided to put them all in one place… Hope you love my collection and drop a note with your thoughts in comments section below.
Color for Day-1 of Dasseshera is yellow, dedicated to Goddess Shailputri… It sets a warm tone to the festivities that are to follow for the next 10 days. Color yellow signifies joy and positivity so I picked a joyful character that I know go who also sports a yellow shell, yeah he is none other than Bumblebee from the Transformer Movie! Though a big fan of Bee, I still don’t have a singe Bumblee, so got my Hotwheels Bumblebee and set the scene with a small yellow robot figure in the background. Overall the shot came out quite well. What do you think? Does it bring out the Dasseshra vibe??
Color for Day-2 of Dasseshera is green dedicated to Goddess Brahmacharini, this color is a global sign of fertility and growth. In the toy world especially if you are into MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe), green mean that big guy Hulk! So I selected the Gladiator Version from the 2017 Thor: Ragnarok movie as my main model. Its Marvel Legends BAF (Build a Figure) Gladiator Hulk released way back and quite a handful character and fits the bill of Dasseshera festivities. The scene was build around the arena backdraft and I was relatively happy with the scene. What do you think? Is Hulk a good fit or you feel there is a better one?
Color for Day-3 of Dasseshera is grey, which is dedicated to Goddess Chandraghanta. Grey stands for stability and inner peace so I decided to get my Marvel Legends War Machine, who is one of the least appreciated character in all of MCU but a very essential character to Ironman’s daily survival. This Toy Photography setup is pretty straight forward with the TV screen as background and set this action in the front. The lightning effect ad some smoke effect were added in photoshop for that extra drama!
Color for Day-4 is Orange, which is devoted to Goddess Kushmanda. And I hit my first challenge… I don’t see anything that is dressed in orange, so I have to improvise a lot! Toy Photography is all about playing with all you got and having fun doing that, so here I go! I picked one of my orange Jeep by Bruder and picked some Marvel Legends action figures to create a workshop like scene. Used some of diorama props to hit the vibe (I guess) overall loved this shot and scene all together. What’s your thoughts on this photo? Do let me know.
Now we are in Day-5 and the color of the day is White, which is dedicated to Goddess Skandamata. White in general is color of purity, peace, and serenity… a very simple color to play around but I don’t have that many good guys in white outfits but I do have one kit bashed! Yeah its Smart Hulk and I have a idea for this guy… yeah the scene is build like a library and Smart Hulk fits the backdrop perfectly! What’s your thoughts on this? Did I nailed it or screwed it royally?
Here comes my favourite color of the series, Red. Day-6 is dedicated to Goddess Katyayani and color red symbolises power and strength and Iron Man fits the bill perfectly. Iron man is favourite character in all of MCU and he in red armour is a plus, which also made my life easier today. I have done so many photoshoot with Iron Man so this time I wanted to do something special so I got him his side-kick AKA War Machine to get that bro vibe. The shot was quite simple and only thing I did to that photo is add some blaster effects. Hope you guy liked it.
Day-7 is dedicated to Goddess Kaalratri and the color of the day is Royal Blue, which symbolises royalty, elegance and serenity. For these qualities the perfect fit would be Pepper Potts in Rescue armour. I wanted to do a dynamic shot with Rescue and I think I did good with the TV screen as the background and love the final photo. The photo is almost how it came from the camera and only the eyes effect is photoshopped.
Color for today (Day-8) is Pink and it is dedicated to Goddess Mahagauri. I got get something pink of my toy box but all that I could find is maroons and reds!! So I improvised a bit and made the background pink and added Marvel Legends Wanda Maximoff AKA Scarlet Witch. Her blast effect is all photoshopped and they matched perfectly with the backdrop. Overall I some how got the pink theme going, which I also loved!
Day-9 also Final day of Navratri, yeah Navratri I mentioned is dedicated to Goddess Siddhidatri and the color is Purple. This is again a tricky color, and not many MCU characters wore Purple so I did quick poll on my FB group and got a hit on comic Hawkeye! I happened to have one made by Marvel Select and he became the main model in just seconds. I love this so much as it captured the Dussehra vibe perfectly and he also became my cover picture. Did it hit that purple theme is questionable! But I liked it and I had fun clicking it.
Dussehra is the tenth day of festivities and is a big one as well. The color for Day-10 is Peacock Green, which is very tricky but seems like this is a very common color with Asgaudians, so I got few to fiddle around and final picked the big guy Thor. This is a very simple shot and I dint even use my DSLR to click, yes I used my iPhone to click this and I loved it so much soused it as is! This pic marks the end of a beautiful 10 days journey in my Toy Photography space.. Hope these photos gave you some inspiration and also some motivation to click toys! Happy Dussehra to you all!
