Avengers: Infinity War is a kick ass movie, filled with super heroes from around the Marvel Cinematic Universal! And Iron Man develops a deep relationship with Spider Man even gets him his newest suit and it is swanky! The Iron Spider suit comes with all the bells and whistles and also gets four mechanical arms for extra grip. I got my 6inch Iron Spider from AliExpress.com for $14.24 and did an unboxing(click here for my unboxing experience) some times back, finally its time for full review! Here we go… with my first of its kind discussing it pros and cons in details.
First thing that grabs your attention is the paint finish. This Iron Spider comes with metallic finish, the red, the blue and the gold all stands out! The pin lining in gold is clean and sharp with almost no smudging around. The eye decals is very sharp and the white stands out.
The body work of this Iron Spider is exceptional the sculpting, accuracy and texture all makes it a best in class action figure from a unknown Chinese brand! The material is also nice and feels premium in hand, rubbery feel of the plastic is the main contributor. This feel is further enhanced by shinny paint job!
The decal works is exceptionally done and the front get the maximum score. The Front chest houses the spider like graphics done in blue base and red, this is further enhanced by the fancy gold pipe work! The rear also gets some fancy graphics but I kind of feel a little upset because of the holes for the mechanical arms. But the holes are done perfectly to keep the graphics under check. Arms and legs also gets some sleek graphics mostly dominated by the red color and highlight in gold.
Articulation is the weakest department of this Iron Spider action figure in my opinion! Spider Man being the most acrobatic character in MCU this is a bummer! The head hardly goes up and down but the chunky neck line is the culprit! But it rotates 360 degree without any flaw thanks to the conventional ball peg.
The shoulder rotates 360 too but no vertical movement what so ever handicapping so much! He gets double jointed elbows, which is a nice to have but lack of palm articulation makes him suffer issues when it comes to posing! The limited articulation continues in the limbs area as well though the knee gets double joints! No thigh swivel neither the foot articulation.
That one key difference, which makes this unique from the sea of Marvel Legends in my collection is its ability to do splits like a trained Yoga practitioner. This is primarily due to its unique pelvic joint giving him some creative abilities and you can achieve some crazy poses like the kneel! But the same pelvic joint restricts the normal movement (as other main stream action figures) and even sitting him up is difficult!
One feature that makes Iron Spider suit stand out from the rest of Spiderman costume is his mechanical arms that pops out and helps with extra grabbing, the case all the same with this action figure. One primary reason why I picked this over Marvel Legends Iron Spider is this extra mechanical arms attachments.
These mechanical arms comes with shiny gold finish and the texture is all clean and sharp! It goes into the back of the body via four peg holes and the fit is relatively snug! These mechanical arms comes some crazy articulation and every joint moves in freely.
These mechanical arms is a soul miss in the Marvel Legends Iron Man that came in as a part of Thanos BAF wave made this Chinese Iron Spider action figure super famous! And I have to say these mechanical arm live up to the expectation and I just love it!
Once these mechanical arms are in place they make this Chinese Iron Spider action figure leap to the next level of Diamond Select and even some high end SH Figuarts! These mechanical arms gives him that extra bit of excitement to this already sleek action figure.
This Spidey action figure is very steady to stand up on his own without any external support but the manufacturer have included peg holes in both of his foot, which is a nice touch!
Apart from the mechanical arms, this Iron Spider action figure comes with a sleek flight stand that resembles the SH Figuarts stand! They have some nice articulation and the joints are shredded with metal screws making is a bit more premium. The stand get base with “MARVEL” badging and three peg holes giving us some extra options to stand it up.
This flight is not that snug at first but with a little tweaking got better! It is as tall as the figure itself, which is good and bad, the limited height gives us ease of use inside my small display but if you want to set him up like a jump pose this is not good!
Some crazy poses I achieved with this Iron Spider action figure on this flight stand are below. Of all the poses I like the reverse dive and the cage pose with his mechanical arms like the cage! This action figure come with a very limited array of articulation so some traditional pose like the spidey’s upside down a nightmare!
All action figures comes with its own array of flaws (even for established brands like Hasbro) and this is no exception! The articulation is the first and far most the biggest issue and there are some other small issue like some paint chipping in his right thumb and exposed plastic in his mechanical arms, which you need a magnification glasses to find.
Though these mechanical arms fit perfectly in their respectively peg holes, the clearance is an issue as these arm pegs don’t go all the way in! This visible if you put it through magnification glass but I am bringing it on, because it is an issue in my opinion!
Finally the size, which also works against this Chinese Iron Spider action figure because he is a little big for a 6inch figure(as per claim) and stands slightly taller than my favorite Marvel Legends Iron Man Mk50. But what I feel personally feel is this will be a comparable model to Marvel Select or Diamond Select as they stand taller at 7inch.
But the size difference is only visible when he is pegged right next to an other 6inch figure in standing pose. He works perfectly when posed creatively like the poses below, the height difference is not that obvious and looks very nice too! And the Iron Man in Sofa and Spidey behind standing guard is my favorite!
I like Marvel Legends action figures in 6inch and also some 7inch Necas (non marvel stuffs) but this Iron Spider is a wild card and is growing slowly on me. Yeah this is not a licensed product but I would not call it a Bootleg, why because it does not try to replicate any existing product and creates a niche of its own! Till Hasbro releases a Marvel Legends Iron Spider with those tentacle like mechanical arm this is my top Spidey! He is also a very camera friendly action figure and I managed to get some wacky photos(check out the photos here) of him few nights back, which made me love this Chinese Iron Spider action figure more! Hope you had fun reading this review, do let me know your thoughts and suggestion about this action figure in the comments section below to make these reviews better. Till next time, Ciao.
