I been collecting action figures for over a decade now and my primary focus is on 6inch Marvel Legends and 7inch McFarlane Toys action figures. Most of my action figures are sourced locally and some came from Dubai and New York City! I always wanted to visit Malaysia and spend few days on Toy Hunting, and time is this year so, booked my flights packed my bags (with my wife and three year old) and here I come Malaysia. I tactically disguised this as a family vacation and visited Penang for few days and finally landed in Kuala Lumpur.
I have see some touristy spots, yeah I did visit Petronas Towers and Bath Caves and also Genting Highlands to keep the family engaged. And allocated one day for Toy Hunting… because the time was very limited, I have to select two of three malls and call it a day. My first and far most is Amcorp Mall, which is quite far but came with quite a reputation with tourist and local collectors! So that is my first stop for the day! It is not a very posh mall by any mean as (in comparison to Surya KLCC and TRX, which I visited few day back), but a decent one, but old.
This Amcorp Mall has like 3-4 floors and every floor at least have one toy store, selling Hot Wheels diecast cars, Marvel Legends, McFarlane, Bandai and other action figures, statues and even dioramas props. “My Toy” is one of my favourite toy stores here, which I believe is in 2nd floor right in front of you once you get off the escalator. I did my homework on this store and they used to run quite a lot of promotions on Marvels Legends, Jada Toys, ZD Toys and other action figures all year long, that’s the reason I am here!
Let me frank, most toy stores here in Malaysia has a very good collection of Gundam and anime related figures… This store is no different! As I am not a big follower of this franchise, I couldn’t explore this a lot but jumped right into their Transformer collection, especially there was massive display cabinet filled with Transformers from different mix of brands.
Even my Transformers knowledge is quite limited mostly acquired from the movie series. But I love robotic figures with details that would make it realistic and this store’s display would not let you down. Yeah there is a massive Optimus Prime figure not 1:1 but a decent size one that is the main focal point of this store. What I like about this Prime figure is its attention to details and paint applications. This is kept right near the cash counter so there is no way you would miss this biggie.
I have no idea what is the name of this green Transformer and manufacturer but I loved it so clicked a pic or two with my a real camera with Macro lens as my iPhone camera is not doing any justice to this! Look at the weathering details, the rust and scratches, they all look realistic, this could be a custom work as well as the details are too good for a mainline production.
Though my knowledge of transformers is limited but my love of Bumblebee is over the charts! Yeah I love Bumblebee from every movie, thanks to its bright yellow body and cool and composed attitude. This store has a massive collection and two of them on display got my attention and I assumed it is three zero, which could be owner’s personal collection but I could be wrong.
They had a very small collection of ZD Toys but their collection is quite diverse, they had lot of Iron Man figures starting from MYR.125 to MYR.165, which is a series called “Luminous Version”. They also have few Iron Man Hall of Armour priced at MYR 125, which in my opinion is great value for money, if you are in the process of building the “Hall of Armour” from the movie Iron Man 3.
I have a must pick list and Iron Man 2 Igor (XXXVIII) by ZD Toys tops that list. And I was literally jumping when I first got a glimpse of Igor, from across few aisle. My Igor is priced at MYR. 160, so well within my budget and the package is quite compact to be carried in my luggage. So I picked him up and felt like I have achieved greatness in life.
Jada Toys is one other action figure brand that has a small presence here but all my favourites are here… Yeah they have all my favourite Street Fighter figures from RYU to M.Bison to Vega to Chin-Li to even its biggest Sagat. The pricing got me closer to these figures, even without any big discount or sale, they were fine… except the big Sagat all other Street Fighter action figures costs like MYR.140 and big boy is priced at MYR.160, which is not a bad deal at all.
Even though these Jada Toys Street Fighter action figures are cool I dint find any newer 2025! No Balrog, no Blanka, no Cin or E. Honda, maybe they are sold out or yet to hit Malaysian market. I also was looking for Scoobydoo figure but wasn’t that lucky. I been eyeing the Jada Toys Street Fighter RYU but some how missed to bagging it because I was busy exploring their humongous collection of action figures. Maybe next time I will bag him or pick him up in locally.
As mentioned, Marvel Legends top my collection and I am here to pick some very specific MCU action figures! Yes this toy store has a massive collection of Marvel Legends as well and some of them are on big sale! Here is what I felt interesting and worth my time! First eye candy is this Maximum Series Deadpool, with lots of accessories to play all day long. Carrying a price tag of MYR.240 it kind of feels overpriced especially taking into consideration other Marvel Legends in stock here.
This store has some brand new Thunderbolts Two Packs and I like them but I dint pay that much attention as I was not a big fan of this movie. But when I walked closer, I spotted this Red Guardian in one of the stack and immediately liked it as this Red Guardian is a world apart from the previous and the second head makes it a piece to own. Other Thunderbolts figures are also nicely done but the main character “Sentry” is kind of blunt!
The jewel in Marvel Legends collection is “The Infinity Saga” figures, which had some figures that I been looking for like ages! One of them is Iron Man Mark 2, which I needed for very long time, the open face head is really well made! Bruce Banner is one other figures that was looking for to complete my “Avengers – Infinity War” and this got me one more step closer to completing it. Captain America and War Machine was also there.
There was this beautiful Iron Man Mark 85 in a premium package. This is a beautiful piece but I already have this Iron Man armour and this one don’t have anything special that the original release dint have. Only thing this one has the original one don’t have is this beautiful package. Maybe the reason that this one is on sale!
Now come the Best Days of “What If” series Marvel Legends figure the Hydra Stomper that too with an affordable price tag. I have loved this figure since I saw this online, but even this time I have give this big boy a pass as I actually picked few more desirable figures already and almost ran out of space in my luggage.
There were few more Marvel Legends that are either not impressive or just regular, which are going for as low as MYR.60 like this Namor from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and one other character from the Thor Movie I believe. Now I feel I missed that Namor figure as he will be a good body donor for some custom.
There were these Marvel Legends Magic The Gathering Spiderman figures and they look nice even inside that windowed box. With a price tag of MYR.210 these I know are something special but I have no idea what these are so I got to say maybe next time buddy and walk away!
GI Joe Classified Series action figure is fairly new for me but the I did picked the Snack Eyes on the first day as I like that guy since 2009 movie “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra” dropped in cinema. But for years the collection dint gain any traction since now. Because I am running out of interesting MCU to pick, I am think of adding GI Joe line to my collection! Yeah the collection is massive and picking a starting point is quite tricky! So I am just exploring here. This Jason Shockwave Set at a great price sounds interesting but not convincing.
I am car a person and love scale model car, then its just natural I was attracted to this 4wd-Stinger. Yeah this is a massive piece and no way I could carry it home in my luggage, so decided to click some pics and drool at it. This is great piece to own if you have large display area, big wallet to buy this nice truck.
Next to Snakeeye, my favourite GI Joe is Storm Shadow! Yeah the rivalry between these two ninjas are the one that I liked in the first movie, so I was excited when I saw this in the shelves here but then realised its not the same Storm Shadown but the relic of the SS from 2021 movie Snake Eyes. So another skip!
There is an array of GI Joes Classified Series action figures on display and most of them are on sale! My favourites among them is Alvin Breaker Kibbey especially his secondary face with a gum and Heavy Duty with some very heavy weaponry onboard. Sgt Slaughter was also there and he comes with a miniature action figure of himself, which is a gimmick but looks cool in real.
I am not a big time Star Wars action figure collector and the collection that I have is mostly their troopers and robots they have running around like R2D2 and BB8s. I been trying to find someone to accompany my R2D2 and when I saw this Anakin Skywalker from the movie Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, I went crazy and bagged him immediately, technically he is the first one to enter my shopping cart.
Just like GI Joe figures, Star Wars Black Series is everywhere but because of my limited knowledge of this franchise I concentrated on character that know of. I know Luke Sky Walker and Droids so I clicked as many of these two guys in one and two packs. SO don’t curse me if your favourite character is missing in this pics.
There were bunch of two packs all of them are very cool with beautiful props, but none on sale. The Clone Commander and B1 Battle Droir pack was my favourite with some accessories. The other two pack with Cal Kestis Turgle Skoova Stev came with far more accessories and prop, which I assume is new and selling very fast.
The latest stuff that they in here as per my knowledge is their deluxe packaged Mandalorian series action figures and I immediately spot The Book of Boba Fett figure and other that had Grogu figure along with Mandalorian in a single pack. The way this shop announces its sale product is by adding a collared dots, here in these packages they are ther so there is sale running on these or else they could easily run you down by MYR.180!
The only Star Wars Black Series action figure that regret not picking is this single pack of Grogu, which came with cradle and all to go with. Theo only reason I dint pick this is because of the price for such a small figure but now I regret the decision. Maybe next time as he is a very good addition to my Mandalorian display I am slowly building.
I love to visit toy stores that has good displays of their products not just boxes of stock! This store “My Toy” in Amcorp took a extra points for going extra mile and having a diorama with some nice Marvel Legends around it! Yeah that diorama is just massive you cannot miss even if your vision is impaired.
This is a four sided diorama with all four sides depicting some specific theme, one side is done like a warehouse with metal shutters, electric boxes, plumbing, pavement and trash bags to enhance the looks. This is a massive piece and the brick work is quite impressive… me being diorama maker as well, I loved the details and the paint work. I also learned a bit of posing game from these guys but other stores inside this very same mall have aced it.
The newsstand details are just out of this world and I may try and replicate this and add bit of my own touch to it. These are all the small advantages that I gather when visiting a physical store as it impresses you in more than one way. Like I said, this diorama has different themes and one side has this beautiful Pizza storefront and back entrance kind of door next to it. The upper level has these sliding type windows and this add a lot of depth to this diorama. Even the moulding on the rooftop is done with quite a lot of admirable details.
Overall this is one of the store where I spend over MYR.500 in less than 2hrs and was worth it. Will I visit this store again? Yes definitely! Will I recommend this to any toy collector visiting Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia? Oh yeah! I had fun exploring this store in Amcorp Mall in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, hope this was helpful to you and fun to read.
